Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – Host #13 Salisbury scored seven times in the bottom of the second inning to take control of the game en route to a 17-0 win over visiting Washington College on Monday afternoon at SU Baseball Field in a non-conference game between the Delmarva rivals. The game was called after the seventh inning due to the 10-run rule. The Sea Gulls improve to 4-1 overall, while the Shoremen drop to 0-1.
Salisbury scored seven times in the second inning to grab a 7-0 lead. Jordan Gowe scored on a throwing error for the game's first run and Ken O'Neill came home on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. Johnny Schiotis and Austin Barefoot and scored on a two-run single through the right side by Kyle Hayman to push the lead to 4-0. Bill Root and Hayman came around to score on a Bobby Sanzone single to center to make it 6-0. The Sea Gulls capped the scoring when Sanzone touch the plate on a base hit to center by Gowe.
The Sea Gulls scored four times in the bottom of the third inning, six runs in the last of the fifth and one in bottom of the sixth to provide the final margin.
Sanzone sparked the Sea Gulls 18-hit attack with a 3-for-5, three runs scored and three RBI performance. Sam Myers was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Hayman was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored, O'Neill went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and plated, Gowe was 2-for-3 with two runs and Root drove in three and crossed home on a pair of occasions. Schiotis scored three times, while Barefoot had two hits. On the mound, Brett Collacchi went six innings to get the win and is now 2-0 on the year. He scattered three hits, walked one and struck out one.
Sophomore pitcher Dan Jarrell (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) took the loss and drops to 0-1. The Shoremen had four hits in the game. Sophomore pitcher John Beck (East Hanover, N.J./Montclair Kimberly Academy) pitched a scoreless fourth inning for the Shoremen, striking out one.
Washington's next scheduled game is set for Friday afternoon at Stevenson with first pitch slated for 2:30 p.m.
