Shoremen Sweep Raptors To Complete Three-Game Sweep

Mikulus Tosses Complete Game Shutout Win In Opener In His First Complete Game

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Washington College baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Bard on Saturday afternoon at Athey Baseball Park in a non-conference doubleheader.  The Shoremen won game one in a game slated for seven innings in nine innings by a 1-0 score and won the regularly scheduled nine inning game in the second contest, 9-6.  The Shoremen improve to 16-2-1 on the year, while the Raptors fall to 5-9.

Washington College 1 Bard 0 (Game 1)

How It Happened
-In the top of the ninth inning, Jack Hawke led off the frame with a double and was then thrown out at third trying to steal.  The Raptors did get a two-out base hit, but failed to score.
-Luke D'Ostilio led off the last of the ninth with a base hit and came around to score when Aaron Barclay doubled him home as the next batter to give WC the victory.

For The Shoremen (15-2-1)
-Hitting: Barclay (1-for-3, game-winning RBI, walk), TC Conrad (two walks), D'Ostilio (1-for-3, run)
-Pitching: P.J. Mikulus (win 2-1, complete game five-hitter with five strikeouts and zero walks)
-Washington had three hits in the win and drew four walks.
-The Shoremen did not commit an error in the field. 
-The hosts left four on base.

For Bard (5-8)
-Hitting: Five different Raptors had a hit in the opener.
-Pitching: John Wendt (no decision, eight innings, one hit, no runs, four walks and one strikeout), Rami Masani (loss 0-1, zero innings, two hits, one earned run, pitched to two hitters)
-The Raptors had five hits in game two and left three on base and they did not pick up a walk.
-The visitors did not have an error in the game.

Notes
-Mikulus tossed his first complete game shutout in the win. 

Washington College 9 Bard 6 (Game 2)

How It Happened
-In the bottom of the second, Wes Robertson scored the first of two runs when he came home on an error with one out and TC Conrad made it 2-0 when he plated Charlie Meder on a bunt single.
-The Shoremen scored four two-out runs in the bottom of the third to make it 6-0.  Garrett Richrdello walked with the bases loaded to score Evan Hirschbaum to make it 3-0 and the next hitter, Conrad walked with the sacks packed to score Meder to push the lead to 4-0.  WC scored its last two runs on an error on a fielder's choice to score both Mike Pugh and Richardello to cap the scoring and give the hosts a six-run cushion.
-Bard got on the board in the top of the fifth when Matt Lasky scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Nikolai Grumet to cut the lead to 6-1.
-Pugh scored on a ground out off the bat of Conrad in the last of the fifth to restore the six-run lead at 7-1.
-Each team scored once in the sixth inning as WC led 8-2 after six.
-The Shoremen tacked on a run in the last of the eighth to take a 9-2 lead.
-Bard scored four times with two outs in the top of the ninth to cut the WC lead to 9-6, but never got the tying run to the plate.

For The Shoremen (16-2-1)
-Hitting: Conrad (2-for-3, two RBI, two walks), Robertson (2-for-3, two runs, two walks), Pugh (2-for-3, two RBI, two runs), Meder (two runs)
-Pitching: John Beck (win 2-1, 5 1/3 innings, two earned runs, five hits, three walks, two strikeouts)
-Washington had 10 hits in the win, but left 13 on base. 
-The Shoremen drew seven walks and had one player reach on a hit by pitch.
-WC did not commit an error in the field.

For Bard (5-9)
-Hitting: Adam Carafotes (3-for-5, two RBI, home run), Mike Pizzuto (two RBI)
-Pitching: Michael Duffy (loss 0-1, three innings, six runs, two earned, four hits, five walks, two strikeouts)
-The Raptors had nine hits, drew five walks and left eight on base.
-Bard committed four errors in the game and led to four unearned runs for WC.

Notes
-First-ever games between the two programs.
