Baquer Plates Tancredi to Win the Ballgame on a RBI Triple

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Senior Bryan Baquer (Woodbridge, Va./Osbourn Park) tripled to right-center with one out to plate sophomore Matt Tancredi (Wall, N.J./Wall) all the way from first base to complete a comeback from 5-1 down to record a 7-6 victory in 10 innings for host Washington College over visiting Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday afternoon at Athey Baseball Park in a Centennial Conference baseball game.

How It Happened
-The Diplomats scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of first inning to take a 2-0 lead.  Tyler Daley scored on a throwing error at the plate for the game's first run and David Iacobucci came home on an RBI groundout for the frame's second run.  Both runs came with one away.
-F&M made it 4-0 with a two-run top half of the second with a pair of two out runs.  Daley singled to left to knock in Dan Marano to make it 3-0 and Casey Bulik had a base hit up the middle to plate Daley to give the guests a four-run cushion.
-Washington got on the board in the last of the fourth when Wes Robertson scored on a double play ground ball to cut the lead to 4-1.
-The four-run lead was quickly restored as with one away, Iacobucci got Daley home with a sacrifice fly to center.
-In the last of the sixth, Washington trimmed the F&M lead to 5-3 with a pair of runs with one away.  Joe Lozupone came around to score on a double down the left field line by TC Conrad and Luke D'Ostilio touched home on a RBI groundout by Tancredi.
-The Shoremen would even the game in the bottom of the eighth as Evan Hirschbaum hit a bleeder through the right side to score both Conrad and Tancredi.  The rally started by WC after F&M retired the first two hitters.
-In the top of the 10th, F&M had a runner thrown out at home plate for the second out as Baquer's throw from centerfield was in time for Robertson to tag out Matt Mezansky at the dish on a base hit by Luke Seib.  Seib would give the Diplomats the lead at 6-5 when Marano's ball was knocked down by D'Ostilio behind the bag at second base, but by the time D'Ostilio picked the ball up Seib scored to give the guests a one-run lead.
-Mike Pugh led off the last of the 10th for the Shoremen with a base hit to right field and was moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt by Conrad.  Pugh would score on a fielding error to tie the game at 6-6 with one away.  Baquer then ended the game on a triple to the gap in right-center to score Tancredi all the way from first for the walk-off run.

For The Shoremen (20-8-1, 4-5 CC)
-Hitting: Hirschbaum (3-for-5, two RBI), Baquer (2-for-4, game-winning RBI), Conrad (3-for-5), Lozupone (2-for-4), Tancredi (two runs)
-Pitching: Mike Bartels (win 1-1, 1 2/3 innings, two hits, one run, one earned, one walk, one strikeout), Brian Kasey (starter, six innings, five hits, five runs, three earned, three walks, two strikeouts)
-Washington had 15 hits and drew four walks, while stranding 12 runners on base.
-The Shoremen committed five errors, but only led to two unearned runs for F&M.

For Franklin & Marshall (14-16, 5-6 CC)
-Hitting: Seib (3-for-5), Daley (three runs), Bulik (2-for-5), Marano (2-for-5)
-Pitching: Andrew Mascis (loss 0-1, 1 2/3 innings, three hits, two runs, one earned, zero walks, two strikeouts)
-The Dipolmats had nine hits in the contest, worked out six walks and left nine runners on base.
-F&M had three errors in the game, which led to one unearned run for the Shoremen.

Notes
-It was Washington's first win at home over F&M since a 3-2 walk-off win on April 10, 2012.
-With his two hits, Baquer is now at 173 career hits and trails Sean Connole '13 by just three hits for second on the all-time list.
-The Shoremen notch their first 20-win season since 2012 when that squad won a program-record 28 contests and for the third time in program history. The 1997 team won 21 games.
