Barclay Plates Five To Match Career-Best as Shoremen Win For The Seventh Time In Last Nine Meetings With Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Junior infielder Aaron Barclay (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) tied his career-high in RBI with five and hit his first home run in over two years as visiting Washington College downed host Haverford, 13-6, on Tuesday afternoon at Kannerstein Field in Centennial Conference baseball action.  The Shoremen, who are 7-2 in their prior nine meetings with the Fords, improve to 19-9 overall and 3-4 in the Centennial, while the Fords slip to 12-13 and 5-2 respectively.

How It Happened
- Washington scored five runs in the top of the first inning as they sent 10 guys to the plate.  Ryan Donnelly scored on a fielding error by Haverford for the game's first run with one out.  Aaron Barclay would come home on a base hit to right by Matt Tancredi to make it 2-0 and the next batter Luke D'Ostilio doubled to left-center to plate Evan Hirschbaum to give the guests their third run.  With two away, Joe Lozupone singled to right-center to drive in both CJ Gillmer and D'Ostilio to cap the five-run frame.
- The Fords got onto the board in the bottom of the first when Ethan Lee-Tyson scored on an RBI groundout with one away to trim the lead to 5-1.  In the last of the third, Will Karp scored on a one-out sacrifice fly by Spencer Sohmer to reduce the Shoremen's lead to 5-2.
- Barclay hit his first home run in over two years with a three-run blast to right to give Washington an 8-2 lead with one out in the top of the fourth.  Scoring ahead of Barclay were Lozupone and Donnelly.
- Michael Schwarze doubled home Sohmer on a two-bagger to right-center with one out in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Washington cushion to 8-3.  With two outs, Ben Somorjai singled to center to score Schwarze to reduce the WC lead to 8-4.
- In the top of the seventh, Washington had its second five-run frame of the game to take a nine-run lead.  D'Ostilio gave Washington its six-run lead back at 10-4 when he slammed a two-run homer over the right field fence to also drive in Tancredi.  Gillmer scored on a wild pitch to make it 11-4 with one out and Barclay capped the scoring on a triple to center that scored Lozupone and TC Conrad that put the guests ahead 13-4.
- Haverford got two back in the bottom of the seventh when Schwarze doubled to center to score Lee-Tyson and Owen Plumbeck to trim the lead to 13-6 with two away to provide the final margin.

For The Shoremen (19-9, 3-4 CC)
- Hitting: D'Ostilio (2-for-3, three RBI, two runs, home run, walk), Barclay (2-for-5, home run, two runs, five RBI), Tancredi (2-for-4), Lozupone (two RBI), Gillmer (two runs and three walks), Donnelly (two runs)
- Pitching: Brian Kasey (win 4-1, 5 2/3 innings, four hits, four runs, three earned, three walks, five strikeouts)
- Washington had eight hits and drew 10 walks while leaving seven on base. 
- The Shoremen had three errors in the game, leading to three unearned runs for the Fords.

For Haverford (12-13, 5-2 CC)
- Hitting: Schwarze (2-for-4, three RBI), Somorjai (2-for-4), Harrison Burns (2-for-3)
- Pitching: Luke Duris (loss 2-3, 3 1/3 innings, five hits, eight runs, five earned, three walks, three strikeouts)
- The Fords notched 10 hits, drew five walks and had two players get on via the hit by pitch as they left 11 on base.
- Haverford had one error in the game, leading to three Washington runs.
