20/20: Shoremen Tally 20 Runs and 20 Hits in 20-6 Win Against Bison

Washington Scores Eight in the First Inning to Take Control Early

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington College baseball team pounded out 20 runs and 20 hits and scored eight runs in its first at-bat to never trail in a 20-6 victory over host Gallaudet on Sunday at Hoy Field in non-conference baseball action.  The Shoremen improve to 2-1 on the year, while the Bison fall to 2-6.

How It Happened
- Washington got all the runs they needed with an eight-run top half of the first inning, including the last seven with two outs.  Joe Otto began the scoring on a base hit to left field that scored Max Ruvo with one away.  With two away, Brian Gerber singled to left to score Ryan Zwier to make it 2-0.  The next batter, Joe Curtin pushed the lead to three with a single to left to plate Jack Kingman.  Gerber and Kingman would come around to score on a three-run home run over the fence in left field by Dylan Nepert that put the guests ahead 6-0.  Three hitters later Max Ruvo tripled down the left field line to plate CJ Gillmer and Chris Baker to cap the scoring in the frame.
- The Shoremen would extend their lead to 12-0 with a four-run top of the third before the Bison got on the board in the bottom of the third to trim the lead to 12-2.  Gallaudet would push two more runs across in the last of the fourth to reduce the WC lead to 12-4.
- The Shoremen registered their second eight-run outburst of the game with eight in the seventh.
- Gallaudet scored single runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings to provide the final margin. 

For The Shoremen (2-1)
- Hitting: Max Ruvo (3-for-3, two runs and RBI), Nepert (1-for-2, three RBI, home run, walk), Otto (3-for-3, two RBI, run), Gerber (2-for-3, run, RBI), Ian Adams (2-for-3, run, RBI), Curtin (2-for-3, two RBI, run), Zwier (2-for-3, two runs and RBI), Colin Cummins (two RBI), Baker (two runs)
- Pitching: Jay Nesson (win 1-0, 2 2/3 innings, one hit, zero runs, two walks, four strikeouts)
- Washington had 20 hits, drew 10 walks and had two reach on hit by pitch while leaving 13 on base. 
- The Shoremen had two errors in the game, but it did not lead to a run for the Bison.

For Gallaudet (2-6)
- Hitting: Mitchell Dollner (2-for-3, two runs), Gilwon Seo (two RBI), Darren Drolsbaugh (two runs)
- Pitching: Elijah Watters (loss 0-2, two-plus innings, 14 hits, 12 runs, 12 earned, three walks, zero strikeouts)
- The Bison notched five hits, drew 10 walks and had four get on via hit by pitch as they left 12 on base.
- Gallaudet had two errors in the game, leading to three Washington runs.

Notes
- The Shoremen have now won six straight over the Bison.
- Today was the fourth time Washington has scored 20 or more runs against Gallaudet and the first time since a 21-14 win in 1991.  WC scored 25 in a 25-12 victory in 1975 and 22 in a 22-4 triumph in 1979.
