Baseball Sweeps Marywood In Florida; Have Won Six Straight

Fort Pierce, Fla. - - -The Washington College baseball team remained red-hot as they swept a doubleheader from the Marywood Pacers on Friday afternoon. The Shoremen, who have now won six straight, recorded a come-from-behind 10-7 win in the opener and took the nightcap by a count of 8-0. Washington improved to 10-4 while the Pacers dropped to 5-7.

Game One
How It Happened
- The Shoremen fell behind in the bottom of the first as Marywood scored a pair of runs against starter Mike Smith. First baseman Jake Shuster lined an RBI single and third baseman Michael Tempel came around to score on an error by shortstop CJ Gillmer.
- The Pacers added to their lead with three more runs in the bottom of the second as Tempel brought in left fielder Shane Smith with a fielder's choice and Shuster produced a two-run double to plate Tempel and shortstop James Myers.
- Washington came all the way back with five runs on three hits and a pair of walks in the top of the fourth. Jack Kingman delivered a two-run single to plate right fielder Chris Baker (BB) and catcher Ryan Zwier (1B) with one out.  Later in the frame, first baseman Max Hammond came up big as he launched a mammoth two-out, three-run homer to right center to knot the score at 5-5.
- Marywood re-took the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Shuster hit a two-run homer off Smith after a walk to Tempel.
- Once again, the Shoremen answered right back as they hung another five-spot on the board in the top of the sixth. Washington amassed three hits, three walks and drew a hit by pitch in the frame. Pinch hitter Max Ruvo lifted an RBI sacrifice fly to score Kingman (BB) to get things started. Washington scored their next four runs with two outs against reliever Antonio Ferraro. Baker came up with a clutch, three-run triple to right to give the Shoremen their first lead of the contest at 9-7. Zwier added another run for good measure as he collected an infield single to plate Baker.

For the Shoremen
- Hammond went 2-for-2, doubled and drove in three runs with his first big fly of the season.
- Baker was 2-for-3, scored a pair of runs and drove in three more.
- Kingman went 2-for-2, walked, scored two runs and drove in a pair.
- Zwier went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
- Smith (2-0, 5 k's) recorded the win despite allowing seven earned runs over 5.0 innings.
- Ryan Mostoller pitched a perfect seventh to record his second save of the season.

 For the Pacers
- Schuster went 3-for-4 with a game-high 5 RBI.
- Tempel scored three runs and added an RBI single.
- Ferraro took the loss after allowing four runs in just 0.2 innings of work.

Game Two
- Center fielder Ben Ruvo opened the bottom of the third with a double to left and designated hitter Zwier jacked a one-out, two-run homer (2nd) to left to spot the Shoremen a 2-0 lead.
- The Shoremen scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth after their first two batters were retired. Catcher Ryan Colbert started the rally with a walk, second baseman Aaron Deutsch put down a bunt single and Ben Ruvo walked. Left fielder Max Ruvo the launched his first career grand slam (2nd) to center to make it 6-0.
- Washington extended their lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the fifth as Gillmer drove in left fielder Joe Otto with a two-out single to left. Otto led of the frame with a single and then swiped second base.
- The Shoreman added their final run in the bottom of the sixth as Deutsch scored on a two-out error.

- For the Shoremen
- RHP Nick Brauer was outstanding on the mound as he picked up his first win of the season. Brauer allowed just two hits, four walks and had four punch outs over 7.0 innings of work.
- Max Ruvo now has a conference-leading 22 RBI's and 44 total bases on the season. He is also 2nd with 11 extra-base hits and a .957 slugging percentage.
- Ben Ruvo went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored.
- Zwier was 2-for-4 and drove in two runs.

 For the Pacers
- Starter Tyler Quick suffered the loss after yielding six earned runs on five hits and four walks over 5.0 innings of work.
