Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Washington College baseball team let a 3-1 lead slip away from them as the Shoremen dropped a 6-3 decision against the St. Mary's (Md.) Seahawks, on Monday afternoon at Athey Baseball Park. Washington fell to 2-2 while St. Mary's (Md.) improved to 4-2. Starting left-hander Mike Smith was outstanding as he left with the lead after 6.0 strong innings. Smith allowed just a run on two hits, walked one and fanned ten batters, including seven in a row at one point.

How It Happened
-The Seahawks opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning. First baseman Jay Hammett singled up the middle to score designated hitter Joey Bryner, who had produced a one-out double to left field.
-The Shoreman answered right back in the bottom of the frame to even the contest. The hosts loaded the bases as right fielder Chris Baker (single), first baseman Max Ruvo (hit by pitch) and designated hitter Ryan Zwier (walk) all reached
to start the inning. Second baseman Jack Kingman followed with a strikeout and then left fielder Brian Gerber produced an RBI sacrifice fly to plate Baker.
- The hosts scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning to grab a 3-1 lead. Shortstop CJ Gillmer ripped a sharp liner to deep center that was dropped by center fielder Bowen Plagge. Catcher Ryan Colbert, who had singled, advanced to third and Gillmer took second on the play. Colbert then scored on a passed ball and Gillmer came around to cross the plate on an RBI sacrifice bunt by center fielder Ben Ruvo.
- The Seahawks got even in the top of the seventh, scoring two runs on a pair of hits, mixed in with three costly Shoremen errors. Third baseman Brady Waters singled in a pair of runs with a clean hit to left field.
- The visitors went ahead in the top of the eighth as they scored three times to grab a 6-3 advantage. Plagge laced a double to left center to plate right fielder Derek Taitano, who had drawn a one-out walk. Catcher Travis Rinker then hit a two-run homer to left center for the game's final runs.
For The Shoremen
- Starting left-hander Mike Smith was outstanding as he left with the lead after 6.0 strong innings. Smith allowed just a run on two hits, walked one and fanned ten batters.
- Reliever Ryan Mostoller suffered the loss after allowing four earned runs on four hits over 1.1 innings of work.
- Washington managed just five hits in the contest after a 20-hit day in the win against Gallaudet on Sunday.
- Colbert (1-for-3, HBP) and Max Ruvo (1-for-3, HBP) were the only Shoremen to reach base twice.
For St. Mary's (Md).
- Starter Tyson Johnson limited the Shoremen to just five hits and one earned run over 7.0 solid innings. Johnson walked two and punched out four batters.
- Sam Roeder earned the save after pitching two hitless innings.
- Plagge went 2-for-4 (2 runs, RBI) and was the only player in the game with a pair of hits.
- Rinker and Brady Waters drove in a pair of runs.
