Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington College's comeback attempt came up just short as the Shoremen were edged by No. 9 ranked Salisbury, 7-6, on Wednesday afternoon at Athey Field. First baseman Max Ruvo continued his torrid hitting as the sophomore went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer in a losing cause. The Shoremen fell to 3-3 while the Sea Gulls improved to 6-2.

How It Happened
- The Sea Gulls got on the board first with a run in the top of the third inning on a line drive sacrifice fly by first baseman Jimmy Monaghan.
- The Shoremen got even in the bottom of the fourth inning as left fielder Joe Otto scored on third baseman Joe Curtin's hard-hit single off pitcher Jackson Balzan.
- The visitors went back in front in the top of the fifth inning as third baseman Brandon Bonesteel connected for a two-run homer to right off starter Ethan Osgood.
- Catcher Ryan Zwier answered for the hosts as he belted his first homer of the season in the bottom of the fifth, a two-run shot well over the left field fence.
- Salisbury, however, scored the next four runs in the contest and led for the remainder of the game. The Sea Gulls plated a pair of runs in the top of the sixth against reliever Ethan Kile. Right fielder Cam Hyder doubled in a run and later scored on a wild pitch.
- The visitors widened the lead to 6-3 in the top of the seventh as left fielder Brad Haas plated pinch runner Trent Saunders with an infield hit to short.
- Salisbury added a big insurance run in the eighth as Nate Yoder lifted an RBI sacrifice fly.
- The Shoremen nearly came all the way back in the bottom of the eighth as the red-hot Max Ruvo deposited a three-run shot over the fence in left-center. Zwier followed with a long triple to left but was stranded there with just one out.
- The hosts went down in order in the bottom of the ninth.
For The Shoremen
- Ruvo now has already amassed 16 RBI's and is hitting .652 with a 1.348 slugging percentage. He also added two stolen bases and leads the squad with four on the season.
- Zwier (2-for-5, 2 RBI) and Curtin (2-for-4, run, RBI) enjoyed a productive day at the plate.
- Osgood allowed three earned runs, scattered five hits and walked five batters in his first career start.
- Kile took the loss as he allowed three earned runs on two hits and a pair of walks over his inning of work.
- Relievers Ben Pika, Ryan Mostoller (3 K's) and Alex Bendzlowicz all pitched a scoreless inning
For the Sea Gulls
- Haas went 4-for-5 with an RBI to lead the visitors.
- No other Salisbury player had more than a hit.
- Reliever Clayton Dwyer picked up the win in relief despite allowing the homer to Ruvo. He did fan seven Shoremen over 2.1 innings of work.
- Corey Burton picked up the save as he whiffed all five batters that he faced.
