Box Score 2 St. Mary's City, (Md.) – Visiting Washington College swept St. Mary's (Md.) to open the 2021 campaign, coming away with an 11-7 victory in the opener and a 9-2 triumph in the second game. Freshman Danny Sheeler (pictured) belted a grand slam in his first career game to highlight game one and senior right-hander Nick Brauer tuned in a strong starting performance in the nightcap.

How It Happened
- Washington College took the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Designated hitter Dylan Nepert delivered an RBI single and second baseman Jack Kingman scored on a wild pitch.
-The Shoremen added to their lead as shortstop CJ Gillmer scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0 in the top of the third inning.
-The Seahawks got even with three runs in the bottom of the third. Shortstop Jake Wood delivered a two-run double and Left fielder Dillon Waters followed with an RBI single.
-Center fielder Ben Ruvo put the Shoremen ahead with a two-run double in the top of the sixth as Sheeler and Nepert came around to score.
-The hosts responded as center fielder Sam Jones tied the game with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth.
-Washington College went ahead for good in the top of the ninth as the Shoremen exploded for six runs. Left fielder Max Ruvo scored after Nepert was hit by a pitch and Sheeler followed with a grand slam to right field. Gillmer added an insurance run with an RBI groundout.

How It Happened
-The Shoremen scored four times in the top of the third inning and never looked back. Left fielder Max Ruvo stroked a two-run single to center, plating shortstop Gillmer and catcher Nick Tamberino. Third baseman Joe Curtin added an RBI sacrifice fly to plate right fielder Baker.
-The hosts scored once in the bottom of the third on an RBI triple by right fielder Derrick Booker and added another run in the fourth on an error.
-Washington College struck five times in the top of the sixth for the game's final runs. Tamberino and Ben Ruvo each drew an RBI walk, Gillmer produced an RBI sacrifice fly, and Ben Ruvo and Tamberino scored on wild pitches.
