Box Score 2 Lancaster, Pa. – The Washington College baseball team split a doubleheader at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday at Caplan Field. The Shoremen dropped the opener by a score of 10-4 but came back to win the nightcap, 6-3. The Shoremen are now 12-6 (6-4 C.C.) while the Diplomats moved to 7-3 (7-3 C.C.). Washington College now sits in third-place in the current conference standings, a game behind Franklin & Marshall and Johns Hopkins.
Franklin & Marshall 10 Washington College 4 (Game 1)
How It Happened
- The Shoremen got on the board first as left fielder Max Ruvo scored on a groundout by second baseman Jack Kingman.
- The Diplomats answered with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first. Shortstop J.J. Freeman, who went 4-for-4, drilled a three-run homer off starter Mike Smith.
- The hosts added another run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI groundout and added four more in the sixth to grab an 8-1 lead. The Diplomats scored two runs on a pair of wild pitches and another on a balk in the sixth. They also got an RBI single by designated hitter Don DiLoreto.
- The Shoreman got a run back in the top of the seventh on an RBI sacrifice fly by catcher Ryan Colbert and cut the lead in half, 8-4, with two more runs in the eighth. Shortstop CJ Gillmer drew a bases loaded walk and third baseman Joe Curtin added an RBI sacrifice fly to account for the runs.
- The hosts drew a pair of bases loaded walks in the bottom of the eighth to put the game away.

How It Happened
- Starter Jonah Frankel turned in his best performance of the season as he allowed just one earned run in five innings of work.
- Right fielder Chris Baker scored on a wild pitch to give the Shoremen a 1-0 advantage in the first and Kingman scored on an error in the third.
- First baseman Will Samuel delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the third to bring the hosts within 2-1.
- Max Ruvo answered with an RBI single of his own to plate second baseman Aaron Deutsch.
- The Shoremen added two runs in the top of the sixth as Kingman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Max Ruvo scored after a fielding error.
- The visitors scored their final run of the game as designated hitter Dylan Nepert scored on another error.
- The Diplomats got two runs in the ninth on an RBI groundout and an RBI single by Samuel.
