Baseball Splits With Dickinson In Pennsylvania

Carlisle, Pa. – Visiting Washington College split a doubleheader with Dickinson on Saturday at MacPhail Field. The Shoremen scored five unanswered runs to win the opener, 9-6, while the Red Devils scored six unanswered runs en route to an 11-5 victory in game two. The Shoremen are now 15-8 (7-5 C.C.) while Dickinson stands at 7-7 (7-7 C.C.).

How It Happened
- The Shoremen scored three unearned runs in the top of the second to grab a 3-0 lead. Shortstop CJ Gillmer (1B) scored after second baseman Aaron Deutsch reached on an error, Center fielder Ben Ruvo (BB) scored on a wild pitch, and left fielder Max Ruvo delivered an RBI single.
- Washington College returned the favor as the hosts scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning. Second baseman Brendan Pell scored on a passed ball and catcher Christian Delsandro hit a two-run homer to even the score
- First baseman Andrew Mazzone put Dickinson ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the third with a solo homer to left.
- The Shoremen came right back in the top of the fourth as Max Ruvo ripped an RBI triple down the right field line to plate Deutsch (1B).
- The hosts scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to grab a 6-4 edge as left fielder Alex Cohen and Pell delivered RBI sacrifice flies.
- Deutsch (1B) scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh to bring the visitors within 6-5.
- Washington College went ahead for good in the eighth as they scored three runs on a hit, two walks, an error and two hit batters. Left fielder Tommy Buckman drew a bases loaded walk, Gillmer (1B) then scored on an error and Max Ruvo was hit to plate David Hudak (HBP).
- The Shoremen added an insurance run in the ninth as Gillmer delivered an RBI single to plate designated hitter/second baseman Jack Kingman, who had doubled to open the frame

Dickinson 11 Washington College 5 (Game 2)

How It Happened
- Dickinson opened the scoring as center fielder Derek Smith drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the first.
- The Red Devils added three more in the bottom of the third on three hits. Smith hit a two-tun triple to right center and first baseman Christian Kim followed with an RBI single to left.
- The Shoremen closed within 4-3 with three runs on four hits in the top of the fourth. Third baseman Joe Curtin recorded an RBI single and left fielder Buckman followed with an RBI sacrifice fly. Curtin later came around to score after second baseman Deutsch was thrown out at second on a steal attempt.
- The hosts went ahead 5-3 as second baseman Pell registered an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.
- Washington College drew even in the top of the fifth with a pair of runs. Right fielder Max Ruvo (2B) scored on a wild pitch and Curtin added an RBI infield single to shortstop.
- Dickinson scored the final six runs of the game as they scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to move ahead for good. Catcher Delsandro scored on an error by Curtin and shortstop Tom Gannaway came through with an RBI sacrifice fly.
- The hosts made it 8-5 as Pell on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth.
- Dickinson grabbed a 10-5 lead in the seventh after a two-run single by third baseman Colin Jones and added another in the eighth on a solo homer by right fielder Lukas Atsalis

Up Next: The Shoremen will complete the season with a home doubleheader against Muhlenberg (12pm) next Saturday at Athey Park.
