Morrissey Tosses Gem In 5-0 Victory Against Stevenson

Box Score

Fredericksburg, Va – Washington College freshman right-hander Joe Morrissey earned his first career victory after turning in a dominant performance against Stevenson on Saturday afternoon at Mary Washington University. Morrissey tossed seven scoreless innings of three-hit ball to help lead the Shoremen to a 5-0 victory over the Mustangs. Washington improves to 2-3 while Stevenson drops to 1-6-1.

How It Happened

- The Shoremen pounced for three runs in the bottom of the third inning and never looked back. Freshman catcher Mike Bukowski reached on an error to open the frame, freshman center fielder Cael Magill singled, and then Bukowski came around to score on a fielder's choice off the bat off senior right fielder Chris Baker. Senior left fielder Max Ruvo produced an RBI sacrifice fly to plate Magill and senior third baseman Joe Curtin followed with another RBI sacrifice fly to bring Baker home.
- Washington added a run in the bottom of the fifth with two outs as Ruvo singled to right to bring Magill (walk) home.
- The Shoremen extended their lead to 5-0 in their half of the fifth as they struck again with two men out. Senior second baseman Jack Kingman reached on a one-out single to right and then senior pinch-runner Brandon Hoffman advanced to second on a groundout. Hoffman would come all the way around to score on an error by second baseman Trevor Smoot with Bukowski at the plate.
