Baseball's Nine-Game Win Streak Stopped By Kenyon

Fort Pierce, Fl. – Washington College's nine-game winning streak was stopped by Kenyon as the Shoremen dropped a 19-13 decision to the Lords on Thursday afternoon. The Shoremen drop to 10-4 while the Lords improve to 6-6. 

How It Happened
- The Lords scored seven runs in the top of the first inning to chase starting right-hander Jonah Frankel. Shortstop Alex Gow opened the scoring with a three-run blast homer,  first baseman Luke Meister recorded an RBI double, catycher Ben Gimbel had an RBI single, and second baseman Malcolm Gaynor roped a two-run double. Frankel was unable to record an out as he allowed four earned runs in the frame.
- The Shoremen responded with four runs in their first turn at bat. Senior third baseman Joe Curtin ripped a three-run double to left field to plate sophomore first baseman Danny Sheeler (walk), senior left fielder Max Ruvo (hit by pitch) and senior right fielder Chris Baker (double). Curtin eventually came around to score after a passed ball and a wild pitch.
- Kenyon scored an unearned run in the top of the third as center fielder Drew Robinson scored on a throwing error by senior shortstop CJ Gillmer.
- Washington cut the deficit to 8-6 in the bottom of the third as they scored a pair of runs on three hits. Gillmer recorded an RBI single to left to score Curtin (single) and then came around to score on an RBI single by freshman second baseman Erik Risnychok.
- The Shoremen evened the game at 8-8 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. Freshman center fielder Cael Magill and Baker smacked back-to-back doubles and Sheeler put down a sacrifice bunt to score Baker.
- The Lords took the lead for good after scoring four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Left fielder Alexander Hoskins drew a bases loaded walk, Gaynor recorded an RBI single to left, right fielder Will Sturgeon was hit by a pitch with the bags full, and Gow drew an RBI walk.
- Kenyon expanded their lead to 14-8 with two more runs in the top of the seventh. Hoskins (single) scored on an error by Risnychok and Gaynor (single) crossed home on a fielder's choice RBI by Meister.
- Washington got two runs back in the bottom of the inning as Magill smacked an RBI single to score senior designated hitter Jack Kingman (reached on error). Baker followed with a fielder's choice RBI that scored Gillmer (single).
- The Lords scored once in the top of the eighth to up their lead to 15-10. Robinson (walk) scored on a 4-6-3 double play.
- Kenyon put the game away with four runs on four hits in the top of the ninth. Gow scored on another error by Gillmer, and Hoskins cleared the bases with a double to right field.
- Sophomore pinch hitter Cam Tyson produced an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth for the final run of the contest.

For the Shoremen
Hitting
- Magill went 3-for-4 (2B, SB) and drove in two runs to pace the Shoremen.
- Curtin went 2-for-5 (2 runs, 2B, SB) with a team-high three RBI.
- Baker finished 2-for-5 ( 2 runs, 2B) with a pair of RBI.
- Gillmer scored a team-high three runs and went 2-for-5 with a stolen base.
- Risnychok was 2-for-3 (run, RBI).

Pitching
-JR right-hander Jay Nesson (1-1) took the loss in relief as he allowed two earned runs in an inning of work.
-SR right-hander Nick Brauer was the team's most effective pitcher as he tossed two innings without permitting an earned run.

For the Lords
Hitting
-Gaynor went 5-for-7 (2 runs, 2B, SB) with 3 RBI
-Hoskins finished 3-for-5 (2B) with four RBI.
-Gow knocked in four runs and went 2-for-3 (HR, 2B, 3 walks 2 runs)
-Robinson (2-for-3) scored a game-high five runs, walked three times, and swiped three bases.

Pitching
-Jake Davidson picked up the win despite allowing five earned runs over 3.1 innings of work.

Notes
- The nine-game winning streak was the programs' best stretch since the 2019 season when the Shoremen won 14 straight.
- Curtin raised his average to .392 as he's hit safely in all six games on the spring break trip. Curtin is 11-for-20 and has knocked in six runs during the stretch

The Shoremen will play a doubleheader against Albright on Friday with the first pitch set for 10:00 a.m.
