How It Happened
- The Shoremen wasted little time collecting their first tally of the afternoon. With two down in the opening stanza, sophomore infielder Danny Sheeler belted a solo home run to center to put the good guys ahead, 1-0.
- Washington opened the flood gates in the second, once again with two outs in the frame. With the bases juiced, senior outfielder Chris Baker earned a walk to bring in a run. Freshman outfielder Cael Magill did the same in the next at-bat, receiving the free pass and earning another score for the hosts. Sheeler stepped into the box next and promptly cleared the bases with a three-RBI double, giving the Shoremen a 6-0 advantage through two innings.
- The Green Terror snapped the Shoremen run in the third. Senior outfielder Connor Uhrig led off the frame with a big fly to left, taking the slow trot around the bases and narrowing the margin, 6-1.
- The solo shot for the visitors mattered little, as freshman Noah Iseman led off the bottom half of the third with a solo bomb of his own. Washington left the third with a 7-1 lead.
- Both offenses went dormant for a brief time before the Shoremen brought the bats out to play once more. With one down in the bottom of the fifth, a leadoff walk and single gave Washington runners at the corners. Freshman catcher Mike Bukowksi singled to score his classmate, infielder Erik Risnychok, to add to the cushion. One out later, Magill slapped a two-RBI double to right to put the Shoremen into double-digits, now leading 10-1.
- In the sixth, McDaniel swung back. With two outs in the inning, senior infielder Jack Bayne recorded a base hit to secure the second Green Terror run of the afternoon, the score now 10-2.
- Once again, Washington wasted no time answering the McDaniel score. With one out in the bottom of the sixth, Risnychok got on base with a single and stole second base shortly after. During the next at-bat, Risnychok stole his way to third and scored one batter later on a wild pitch. Through six frames, the Shoremen led 11-2.
- Uhrig singled to lead off the seventh for the Green Terror. Sophomore infielder Tyler Yohn walked one out later to put runners on first and second. After a strikeout, freshman outfielder Shane Daly singled to load the bases. A run came home in the next at-bat on an error before the side was retired, Washington maintaining an 11-3 lead.
- The Shoremen tacked on two more scores before the end of the contest. In the seventh, Sheeler reached via a fielder's choice to score Baker from third. An inning later, Bukowski smacked a sacrifice fly to center and senior outfielder Max Ruvo scampered home to set the final score, 13-3.
