Baseball Doubles Up McDaniel On Friday, 16-8, Bats Explode for 20 Hits to Equal Season-High

SEASON-HIGH NINE SHOREMEN RECORD MULTi-HIT PERFORMANCES

Westminster, Md. – The Washington College baseball team overpowered the McDaniel Green Terror for the second time this week, doubling up the hosts by a 16-8 margin on Friday afternoon. The Shoremen (16-11, 2-4 Centennial Conference) tied a season-high with 20 hits as nine different players enjoyed multi-hit performances. McDaniel, who lost 13-3 in Chestertown on Tuesday, drops to 16-14 (1-7 C.C.).

How It Happened
- The Shoremen scored four runs on three hits, two hit batters, and a walk in the top of the second to grab the lead. Freshman center fielder Cael Magill opened the scoring with a two-run, two-out single up the middle and sophomore first baseman Danny Sheeler followed with a two-run double to right field.
- McDaniel got even in the bottom of the third as starting right hander Anthony Sofran yielded four hits, a walk, and hit a batter. Center fielder Shane Daly smacked a two-run double to right, second baseman Joey Hubinger delivered an RBI groundout and shortstop Tyler Yohn added an RBI single through the left side.
- Washington went ahead for good with two runs in the top of the fourth. Magill tripled in a run and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Sheeler.
- The Green Terror got one back in the bottom of the frame after Daly hit an RBI triple to right field.
- Senior shortstop CJ Gillmer began his big day in the top of the fifth as he banged a two-out RBI double to left center to make it 7-5.
- The Shoremen expanded their lead to 8-5 in the top of the sixth as Baker led-off with a double and then stole home after executing a double-steal with Magill, who had singled.
- The visitors took control of the game as they pushed across three runs in the top of the seventh to claim an 11-5 advantage. Gillmer provided the big blow as he crushed a three-run homer to left field after freshman left fielder Erik Risnychok and senior second baseman Jack Kingman both singled to open the inning.
- McDaniel got one back in the bottom of the inning, however, the Shoremen put the game away with three more runs in the top of the eighth to make it 14-6. Gillmer recorded an RBI sacrifice fly and freshman catcher Mike Bukowski delivered a two-out, two-run triple to right center.
- The Shoremen scored their final run in the ninth as senior center fielder Ben Ruvo delivered a two-run single through the right side.

For the Shoremen
Hitting
- Magill led the way with a 4-for-5 (3B) performance at the dish. Magill, who also walked, drove in three runs and scored twice.
- Gillmer drove in a game-high five runs and went 2-for-3 (HR, 2B) with two runs scored.
- Baker was on base five times and finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a pair of stolen bases.
- Risnychok scored three times, had a pair of hits, and swiped a bag.
- Sheeler knocked in three runs and added two hits with a double.
Pitching
- Freshman Alex Martin (1-1) was awarded his first collegiate win after allowing just an unearned run on one hit over 3.0 innings.  He walked none and fanned a pair of batters.

For the Green Terror
Hitting
-Daly went 3-for-5 (2B, 3B, HR) and drove in four runs.
- Yohn finished 3-for-5 with 3 RBI
Pitching
-Starter Ryan Martino (3-2) suffered the loss after yielding six earned runs on eight hits in just 4.0 innings.

Notes
- A season-high nine Shoremen recorded multi-hit performances today.
- The Shoremen tied their season-high with 20 hits (Methodist, 2/20)
- Gillmer tied a career-high with 5 RBI and smashed his second career homer.
- Magill tied a career-high with four hits and has hit safely in eight straight games. He raised his average to  .391 and leads the squad in runs (35) and hits (43)
- Sheeler (team-high .404 batting average) has now collected at least one hit in ten straight contests and is 21-for-40 (.525) with 14 RBI during the span
