Box Score 2 CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Washington College baseball team swept a home doubleheader with the Muhlenberg Mules and have now won four straight games to even their Centennial Conference record at 4-4. The Shoremen, who are now 18-11 overall, edged the visitors by a score of 5-4 in the opener and cruised to an 18-4 victory in the nightcap. The Mules fell to 12-16 overall and 1-9 in the conference
Game 1, Washington College 5, Muhlenberg 4
How It Happened
- The visitors grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI sacrifice fly by shortstop Jonathan Toth, however, senior right fielder led-off the bottom of the frame with a homer to right field to even the game. Senior third baseman Joe Curtin gave the hosts the lead when he crushed a double into the left field ally to plate sophomore first baseman Danny Sheeler (reached on error).
- The Mules evened the game in the top of the second when catcher Thomas Rodgers scored on a two-out wild pitch by senior left-handed starter Mike Smith.
- The game turned into a pitchers' duel until the Shoremen broke through with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the seventh inning. Senior second baseman Jack Kingman opened the frame with a single to center and then senior shortstop CJ Gillmer dragged a bunt single up the first base line. Pinch hitter Brandon Hoffman came through with the go-ahead RBI single to left, plating pinch-runner Max Ruvo. Baker launched an RBI sacrifice fly to right field to score Gillmer, who had advanced to third on a passed ball.
- Washington scored a key insurance run in the bottom of the eighth as Ben Ruvo lined an RBI double to score freshman designated hitter Noah Iseman (walk, stolen base).
- The Shoremen survived a scare in the top of the ninth as the Mules put two on the board and were threatening for more. First baseman Trevor Virno recorded a one-out, two-run single to right to bring the visitors within a run, and placing runners on first and third. However, senior reliever Alex Bendzlowicz got third baseman Jack Kent to hit a comebacker, which he turned into a 1-6-3 double-play to end the game.

- Baker went 1-for-3 (HR) and drove in two runs.
- Kingman recorded a team-high two hits
- Curtin and Ben Ruvo delivered RBI doubles.
Pitching
- Smith was outstanding after allowing two early runs and went 7.0 innings to improve to 3-0. Smith scattered just four hits, walked three and struck out five.
- Bendzlowicz came on in the ninth and picked up his third save.
For the Mules
Hitting
- Virno went 3-for-4 (2B) with a pair of RBI.
- Ryan Gilber was 2-for-4.
Pitching
- Starter Quinn Rovner (5-3) was the hard-luck loser as he allowed just two earned runs and seven hits over 7.0 innings of work. He fanned four and allowed just one free pass.
Game 2, Washington College 18, Muhlenberg 4
How It Happened
- Washington scored four times in the second and never looked back as they led 18-0 after six innings. Gillmer produced the first run of the game with an RBI single to score Kingman (single). Hoffman added an RBI single, Gillmer scored on a wild pitch, and freshman catcher Mike Bukowski had an RBI single.
- Sheeler drilled a two-run homer to right to score freshman center fielder Cael Magill (single) to make it 6-0 in the third.
- The Shoremen busted the game wide open with six runs in the fourth to widen their lead to 12-0. Baker produced a two-run single and then Magill followed with an RBI triple to score Baker. The hosts then went back-to-back for the first time this season as Sheeler belted his second straight bomb to center and Curtin followed with a shot over the left-center field fence.
- Washington continued to pour it on in the fifth with five more runs. Curtin ripped a two-run single, Sheeler scored on a wild pitch, and then freshman second baseman Erik Risnychok and Hoffman delivered RBI singles.

- Sheeler went 2-for-3 (2 HR) with four RBI and scored three times.
- Curtin finished 3-for-4 (HR, 2B) with 3 RBI.
- Magill was 3-for-6 (3B) and scored three runs.
- Bukowski was 3-for-3 (RBI, 2B) and scored two runs.
- Hoffman went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and scored two runs.
Pitching
- Senior right-hander Ryan Mostoller was awarded the win after allowing just one hit and no runs in 4.0 innings of work. He fanned five batters and walked just one.

Pitching
- Starter Jayden Barroqueiro fell to 1-4 after allowing nine earned runs on 10 hits over just 3.0 innings.

- Sheeler, who has hit safely in 12 straight, produced his first career two-homer game in the nightcap. He now has a team-high 6 dingers and 36 RBI. He's got 12 RBI over his last four contests.
- Baker and Sheeler are tied for the team-lead with 16 extra-base hits.
- The Shoremen recorded a season-best 21 hits in game two.
- Smith was named the Goose Nation TV Player of the game in the opener and Sheeler took the honors in the nightcap.
