Box Score SENIOR PINCH-HITTER BRANDON HOFFMAN DELIVERS GAME-WINNING HIT
Lancaster, Pa. – Senior pinch-hitter Brandon Hoffman delivered a game-winning RBI single in the top of the ninth inning to give the Washington College baseball team a, 6-5, come-from-behind victory over the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats on Friday afternoon at Caplan Field. The Shoremen improve to 19-12 overall and 5-5 in the Centennial Conference while the Diplomats fall to 18-13 (9-3 C.C.).
How It Happened
- The Shoremen got on the board in the top of the first as senior right fielder Chris Baker led off with a single and eventually scored on a throwing error.
- Franklin & Marshall answered with three runs in the bottom of the first off starter Ryan Mostoller. Designated hitter Jakob Hoffman delivered a two-run double to right field and catcher Michael Cole recorded a two-out RBI single.
- Washington scored three runs on just one hit to grab a 4-3 lead in the top of the third. Freshman designated hitter Noah Iseman had the big hit as he roped a two-run single to right center, scoring sophomore first baseman Danny Sheeler (walk) and Baker (walk, stolen base). Senior third baseman Joe Curtin added an RBI sacrifice fly to center to plate senior left fielder Max Ruvo (hit by pitch).
- The hosts evened the game in the bottom of the fifth as shortstop Bobby Falese reached on a fielder's choice and eventually scored on a two-out wild pitch by Mostoller.- Right fielder Pat Elliott singled and stole second with one out. After advancing to third on a single by left fielder Drew Butera, Elliott scored on a one-out wild pitch by senior reliever Michael Roseman.
- The Shoremen had an opportunity to get even in the top of the eighth but senior shortstop CJ Gillmer struck out with runners on second and third with two outs.
- Senior pinch hitter Jack Kingman led-off the ninth with a single through the middle. Senior pinch runner Henry Butterfield III moved over to second after senior center fielder Ben Ruvo drew a walk. Baker moved Butterfield over to third after reaching first on a fielder's choice. Sheeler then tied the game with an RBI sacrifice fly to left field to plate Butterfield. Baker then swiped second with two outs and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Max Ruvo walked and senior pinch hitter Brandon Hoffman then came through with a clutch RBI single to left field to plate Baker with the go-ahead run. Curtin had an opportunity to do more damage but grounded out to second with runners on second and third.
-Center fielder Spencer Berson reached first on an error by Gillmer to open the bottom of the ninth. Third baseman Tommy Denlinger then singled to right field but second baseman AJ Desautets popped up a sacrifice bunt attempt on the next play. Falese then hit into a 3-6-3 double play to end the contest.

Pitching
- Mostoller yielded just two earned runs over 5.0 innings. He scattered four hits, fanned five and allowed three walks.
- Senior Alex Bendzlowicz pitched the final two scoreless innings to get the win. The right-hander allowed just one hit to improve to 2-1.

Pitching
- Starter Charlie Wright went 6.0 innings but got a no-decision. Wright allowed just three hits and four earned runs.
- Stephen Turzai (1-3) blew the save in the ninth inning as he allowed a pair of runs on two hits and two walks.
