Baseball Earns Doubleheader Split At Gettysburg

Gettysburg, Pa. – The Washington College baseball team split a doubleheader with the Gettysburg Bullets on Saturday afternoon at Bobby Jones Field. The hosts took the opener, 4-2, while the Maroon and White captured the second game by a count of 16-12. Washington College is now 20-13 overall and 6-6 in the Centennial Conference while the Bullets stand at 16-18 (7-7 C.C.)

Game 1 Gettysburg 4, Shoremen 2
How It Happened
-Gettysburg scored an unearned run of senior starter Mike Smith in the third inning to grab a 1-0 advantage. Neele drew an RBI bases loaded walk to score first baseman Mark Seibert (walk).
- The hosts extended their lead to 2-0 in the fifth as shortstop Matt Muir recorded an RBI groundout to plate Seibert (walk).
- The Shoremen evened the game in the top of the sixth on senior pinch-hitter Jack Kingman's two-run single to right field. Senior center fielder Ben Ruvo (hit by pitch) and feshman designated hitter Noah Iseman (lead-off double) scored on the play.
- The Bullets took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI sacrifice fly by McCloskey.
- Gettysburg added an insurance run in the eighth when catcher JR McCloskey delivered a fielder's choice RBI.

For the Shoremen
Hitting
- Senior third baseman Joe Curtin went 2-for-4.
- Kingman drove in a pair of runs with a pinch-hit single.
Pitching
- Smith allowed just one earned run on three hits over 5.0 innings. He walked four and fanned a pair of batters,
- Reliever Ethan Osgood (0-1) took the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in the sixth inning. 

For the Bullets
Hitting
- Third baseman Andrew Decker went 2-for-3 and scored twice
- Second baseman Preston Toothman was 2-for-4.
- McCloskey drove in two runs.
Pitching
- Reliever Ken Spadaccini (3-1) got the win in relief.
- Starter Myles Burbank allowed just two earned runs on six hits over 5.2 innings.
- Brett Leighton picked up his third save as he allowed just a hit batter over 2.1 innings of work.

Game 2, Shoremen 16, Gettysburg 12
- Washington scored two runs in the top of the second to grab the lead. Senior shortstop CJ Gillmer recorded an RBI groundout to score senior second baseman Brandon Hoffman (walk) and freshman catcher Mike Bukowski ripped an RBI single up the middle to plate Ben Ruvo (single).
- The visitors struck for six runs in the top of the fourth to take a 6-0 lead. Curtin (single) scored on a wild pitch and Max Ruvo launched a 3-run homer to center field.
- Bukowski had an RBI infield single in the fifth to make it 7-0.
- The Shoremen scored six more times in the sixth to widen the lead to 13-0. Iseman hit a two-run triple, Curtin delivered an RBI single, and Gillmer smacked a 3-run dinger to left.
- The hosts scored 11 runs on nine hits in the bottom of the seventh to close within two runs.
- Gettysburg inched closer in the bottom of the eighth after an RBI single by Donlan made it 13-12.
- However, the Shoremen scored three runs in the top of the ninth to gain some breathing room. Curtin lined a two-run double down the left field line and then scored on a passed ball. 

For the Shoremen
- Gillmer drove in four runs and went 3-for-6 (HR).
- Max Ruvo was 3-for-4 (HR, SB), 3 RBI, and scored twice.
- Curtin went 3-for-6 (2b), scored four runs and had 3 RBI
- Senior right fielder Chris Baker added three hits.
Pitching
- Starter Anthony Sofran improved to 4-1 after allowing five runs on 10 hits over 6.1 innings.

For the Bullets
- First baseman Aaron Kirby drove in four runs and was 2-for-4.
- Left fielder Jack Pistner went 2-for-2 and drove in three runs.

Pitching
Teo Torrado fell to 3-2 after allowing two earned runs on six hits over 3.2 innings.

Next Up
The Shoremen will host Ursinus on Sunday for a doubleheader at noon.
