Box Score MOSTOLLER FIRES FIRST 9-INNING SHUTOUT IN THE CENTENNIAL CONFERENCE IN 2022
CHESTERTOWN, Md.- Senior Ryan Mostoller hurled a complete-game shutout to help lead the host Washington College baseball team to a 4-0 blanking of the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays, in a key Centennial Conference contest on Tuesday afternoon at Athey Park. The Shoremen improve to 22-14 (8-7 C.C.) while the visitors drop to 18-16 (8-7).
How It Happened
- The Blue Jays loaded the bases with just one out against Mostoller in the top of the second inning, however, the right-hander fanned the next two batters second baseman Jack Walters and left fielder Matthew Cooper.
-Senior left fielder Max Ruvo broke a scoreless tie with a solo, opposite field homer to right-center field in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Shoremen added two more runs in the frame as freshman second baseman Erik Risnychok delivered a clutch, two-run single through the left side to plate freshman designated hitter Noah Iseman (single) and senior third baseman Joe Curtin (reached on error).
- Washington College added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth as sophomore first baseman Danny Sheeler produced an RBI groundout to plate senior second baseman Brandon Hoffman. Hoffman led off the inning with an infield single and advanced to third on a passed ball after Max Ruvo was hit by a pitch.
- Mostoller got pinch hitter Sam Browning to strikeout swinging to end the game.
For the Shoremen
Hitting
- Max Ruvo finished 3-for-4 and belted his third dinger of the season.
- Hoffman went 2-for-5 with a run scored.
- Risnychok was 1-for-2 with two RBI and drew a pair of walks.
Pitching
- Mostoller (2-2) turned in a career-performance as he fired a 128-pitch masterpiece in just his sixth career start. Mostoller allowed just four hits, struck out a career-high seven and walked three batters. It was the first nine-inning shutout in the conference this season.

- Designated hitter Jack Pausic went 2-for-3

-Reed Bolin allowed three runs (1 earned) in the fourth and took the loss.
Notes
- Senior shortstop CJ Gillmer picked up career hit No. 150 with an infield single.
- The win was the first against Hopkins at Athey since a 15-5 victory on 4/5/05. The Blue Jays had won 14 straight in Chestertown.
- It's the first win in the series for the Shoremen since a 7-3 triumph on 4/23/13 in Baltimore (Hopkins had won 15 straight).
- The Shoremen are now in a three-way tied for third (with Johns Hopkins, Haverford) in the conference standings with three games remaining in the regular-season.
- Mostoller was named the GooseNation TV Player of the Game for the first time in his career.
