Connole Drives In Four In Game Two and Plates Five In The DH and Baquer Sets CC Record For Hits By A Freshman With 56

CARLISLE, PA – Host Dickinson swept visiting Washington College on Saturday afternoon at MacPhail Field in a Centennial Conference baseball doubleheader in the season finale for both squads.  The Red Devils took game one, 8-3, and won game two, 9-5.  The Red Devils finish 15-24 overall and 5-13 in the Centennial, while the Shoremen end up 14-25 and 5-13 respectively.

In game one, Dickinson never trailed en route to the 8-3 victory.  With two outs in the bottom of the first inning, Steven Haynes singled home Mike DeVivo to take a 1-0 lead.  Two innings later, Haynes with one out singled home DeVivo again to make it 2-0 and Joseph Tursi knocked in Hank Sanders on a single with one away to give the Red Devils a 3-0 lead.

Dickinson added one run in the last of the fourth to make it 4-0 and two in the bottom of the sixth to push the lead to 6-0.

The Shoremen got three runs in the top of the seventh to cut the lead to 6-3.  Freshman Brian Quadrino (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown East) came home on a one out double by senior Joe Willis (Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Regional) to cut the lead to 6-1.  Willis would score on a base hit by senior Sean Connole (Mt. Airy, MD/St. John's Catholic) to trim it to 6-2 and Connole would come home on a wild pitch to cap the scoring for WC.

Dickinson would score twice in the bottom of the eighth to provide the final margin.

Haynes sparked the Red Devils with a 4-for-5, three RBI performance as the hosts had 13 hits in game one.  Sanders was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Tursi and James Santoro also had two hits.  DeVivo came around to score twice.  On the hill, Ryan Kramer tossed seven innings to get the win to improve to 4-4.  He allowed five hits, three earned runs, walked five and struck out four.

Washington freshman pitcher Dan Jarrell (Alexandria, VA/West Potomac) took the loss and drops to 3-4 as he went 5 2/3 innings.  The Shoremen offense was held to just five hits.

Freshman Bryan Baquer (Woodbridge, VA/Osbourn Park) set the Centennial Conference freshman record for hits in a season with his 55th hit in the sixth inning of game one.  The record had been previously held by Gettysburg's Mike Luteran (2001) and Johns Hopkins' John Christ (1996) at 54 hits.  Baquer had a hit in game two and finishes the season with 56 hits.

In game two, the Red Devils scored three times in the last of the first to take a quick 3-0 lead.  Mitch Helmandollar scored with nobody out on a Sanders single for the game's first run with nobody out.  Santoro scored on a Tursi base hit to make it 2-0 and with one away Sanders scored when Matt Primavera was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to cap the scoring the frame.

Washington responded with four runs in the top of the second.  With the bases loaded and two out, senior Tyler Cotterell (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) scored on a bases loaded walk to Willis to cut the lead to 3-1 and the next hitter, Connole, delivered a three-run triple to score sophomore Scott Matthews (Goshen, NY/Don Bosco Prep (NJ), freshman Garrett Richardello (Coventry, CT/East Catholic) and Willis to put Washington up 4-3.

The lead was short lived as Dickinson scored three times in the last of the third to take a 6-4 lead.  Tursi scored on a double steal to tie the game at 4-4.  With two outs, Santoro singled home both Ben Parker and Brian McCloud to give the Red Devils the lead for good at 6-4.

In the last of the eighth, Santoro made it 9-4 when he socked a three-run home run with out to plate McCloud and Helmandollar.  In the top of the ninth, Connole plated Willis on a single with nobody out to cut the lead to 9-5 and provide the final margin.

Santoro was 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored for the Red Devils which had 10 hits in the nightcap.  Sanders had two hits, while Helmandollar and McCloud scored twice.  On the mound, Harley Moore got the win and is now 4-6.  He went eight innings, giving up four earned runs on 10 hits, walking four and striking out five.

For the Shoremen, Connole went 3-for-4 with four RBI, while Willis was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.  Connole had five RBI in the doubleheader.  Cotterell had a pair of hits as the team had 10 in game two.  Pitching wise, sophomore pitcher Michael Long (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) took the loss and falls to 1-4.
