Charlie Fetter ranks in a select group of outstanding three-sport performers at Washington College.

He was a dominant performer in football, basketball and baseball.

In football, he was a triple threat quarterback who could run, kick and throw. A fine passer, he operated for George Ekaitis from the now famed “shotgun” formation. His play won him selection as quarterback on the All-Maryland team in 1939.

In basketball, he was an aggressive center, strong on the boards, and an excellent defensive player.

He was regarded as the finest fielding first baseman in the Maryland Collegiate League.

He was an instrumental force in the success of his teams, providing inspirational leadership and outstanding performances. Mike Kardash, a teammate, called him “truly one of the most gifted varsity three letter men I was privileged to be associated with at Washington College.”

Charles Fetter gave his life for his country as a B-29 Air Force pilot in World War II.
