Playing in every game during his four-year Washington College baseball career, Bob Everett earned All-Maryland honors in the outfield as a sophomore and at third base as a senior.
From Smyrna, Delaware Bob Everett came to Washington College because his father wanted him to play under J. Thomas Kibler. “Dad said we will find the money somehow, you are going down to Chestertown because they have a good baseball coach,” he recalled.
Making the team in his freshman year, he got into the first game of the season in the fifth inning. Making the most of it, he started every game for the next four years, playing second base, shortstop and third base in the infield and left in the outfield. Washington College won four conference titles during the span.
Bob Everett went on to play minor league baseball before World War II as a Philadelphia Athletic farmhand in the Eastern Shore League and the Florida East Coast League. After the war he played independent baseball with Smyrna, Hartley, Sudlereville and Kenton.
He taught and coached at Smyrna High School for 20 years. His 1952 basketball team went undefeated. The high school baseball field was dedicated to him after the longest tenure of any coach at that school.
Now retired, he remains interested in sports, standard bred racing and raising English setters and pointers.
