Chris McGlone was a top defenseman on a Washington College men’s lacrosse team that reached three consecutive NCAA Division III National Championship games, claimed two Centennial Conference championships, and won the national title in 1998.
While the Shoremen went through a bit of a building year during his freshman season of 1995, Chris made an immediate impact, leading all non face-off specialists on the team in ground balls with 42 and scoring a goal for good measure.
As a sophomore, Chris scooped up 47 ground balls and solidified a reputation as a top-flight defender. He was named to the 1996 All-America third team and All-Centennial Conference second team as the Shoremen won their first Centennial Conference Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division III title game, finishing with a 13-5 record.
Chris was named an All-America honorable mention and again landed on the All-Centennial Conference second team as a junior in 1997, tallying 39 ground balls and one assist. The Shoremen repeated as Centennial Conference Champions, again reached the national title game, and finished 14-4.
Chris finished his career with 43 ground balls and one assist his senior season, this time landing on the 1998 All-Centennial Conference first team and picking up All-America third-team honors. He was also chosen for the North-South Senior All-Star Game and won the College’s Thomas Reeder Spedden Medal. It was that season that the Shoremen captured the NCAA Division III National Championship, finishing the year with a 14-4 record.
Washington College considers it an honor and privilege to induct Christopher R. McGlone into its Athletic Hall of Fame on this 6th day of October, 2018.
