One of the best defensive players in the history of the Washington College field hockey team, Quincy Miles Samus was part of the best four-year run in the program’s history.
Quincy’s freshman season saw her make three defensive saves as as the Shorewomen finished 13-5 and qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time. The following season, she made 10 defensive saves and recorded one assist as the Shorewomen finished 16-3, again qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament, and claimed a share of the Centennial Conference Championship. As a junior, Quincy totallyed three goals, five assists, and one defensive save as the Shorewomen finished 15-3. Quincy capped off her career as a senior in 1999 with an all-around impressive total of four goals, three assists, and eight defensive saves, helping lead the Shorewomen to a 13-6 record and a spot in the ECAC Tournament.
Quincy was named to the All-Centennial Conference first team and Regional All-America second team during each of her final three seasons. She is one of only five student-athletes in Shorewomen field hockey history to be named to the All-Centennial Conference first team three times. Her 22 career defensive saves stood as the school record upon her graduation and still rank third all-time.
Over the course of Quincy’s career, the Shorewomen piled up a record of 57-17, the best four-year mark in team history. They also reach postseason play three out of her four years on the team.
Washington College considers it an honor and privilege to induct Quincy Miles Samus into its Athletic Hall of Fame on this 19th day of October, 2019.
