The 1938 Pegasus said of Leon Horowitz: “a basketball star famous for his ‘bucket shots,’ and a brilliant student. Elected to the honor society, ODK, president of Student Council, a credit to his college, his class,-and to himself.”

Horowitz played a lead supporting role on the successful basketball teams of “Zeke” Zebrowski, “Ace” Wilmot and Mike Kardash. He was known for his spirited hustle and dedication. Alternating as a starting forward and “sixth” man, Lee contributed greatly to the Washington College 1935-36 Maryland Collegiate League championship team.

Following graduation he coached football, basketball, and baseball at Southern High School in Baltimore. Al Kaline, baseball Hall of Famer, was one of his proteges. He later became assistant superintendent of schools in Baltimore City.

Most recently, Lee coached basketball at Johns Hopkins University and served as an administrator in the athletic program.
