Over the past quarter-century, Washington College student-athletes have benefitted from access to medical care from an impeccably qualified physician – and all Dr. Fred Lohr has ever asked for in return has been some athletic department polos and rain gear.

Dr. Lohr began his private general orthopedic and sports medicine practice in Chestertown in 1988 after beginning his volunteer service as the Washington College Athletic Department team physician the year before. During his time in Chestertown, he has served as both the Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff at, as it was then known, Kent & Queen Anne’s Hospital.

Dr. Lohr’s extensive medical background and training includes a fellowship under Dr. James Andrews, widely regarded as the nation’s most sought-after physician by high-profile athletes. He also completed a fellowship in the Netherlands and served overseas treating war wounded during the Afghanistan conflict in 1989.

Not only does Dr. Lohr treat student-athletes referred to him by the Washington College athletic training staff, he also volunteers in the College’s training room one day per week. In addition to providing care for our student-athletes free of charge, Dr. Lohr was also taken Washington College students interested in the medical field under his wing as interns.

Washington College considers it an honor and privilege to induct Dr. Fred Lohr into its Athletic Hall of Fame on this 12th day of October, 2013.
