It’s not often that a freshman dominates from the first time he or she puts on a uniform. Diane Green did just that in the sport of softball, hitting .388 and compiling a career-best 2.07 earned run average in 2003.
Diane, who ranks among the top 10 in many hitting and pitching categories, enjoyed a career .379 batting average and had a 2.67 ERA on the mound.
In 2005, she led the Shorewomen to their first Centennial Conference Tournament berth. That season, Diane produced a career-high .477 on base percentage and recorded her finest season on the mound, posting a .211 earned run average along with nine victories.
Diane was a 2004 & 2005 All-Centennial Conference first team pick and earned 2004 All-Region second team honors. A three-time Team Most Valuable Player, she received the 2006 Senior Athletic Award.
Diane still holds the career record with 46 complete games and hit .474 in 2004, the second-highest season mark in program history. She slugged .784 in 2004 (still a single-season record) and hit a then-record seven home runs in 2004.
The Milford, Delaware native also played on the attack as a sophomore and junior for the Shorewomen field hockey squad.
Washington College considers it an honor and privilege to induct Diane Green into its Athletic Hall of Fame on this 2nd day of October, 2021.
