John M. Wilson was a standout football player during the final years the sport was played at Washington College.

He starred for two seasons, 1949 and 1950, under Coach Dim Montero. A tailback in Montero’s ‘49 single wing offense, he made the conversion to a split-T quarterback the following season.

A triple threat, Jonny Wilson ran for 10 touchdowns, passed for 12 more, did all the punting, kicked off and booted extra points. During those two years under Wilson’s general ship, Washington College posted a record of eight wins, five losses and two ties. Wilson was directly involved in half the scoring and had a 54 per cent passing completion average.

Wilson was a fine catcher and in his three years of varsity baseball, playing for Tom Kibler, he batted .370 his final season and close to .300 his other two years He was co-captain the 1953 season.
