Charles “Chuck” Waesche’s active connection to Washington College and its athletic department, which spans over six decades, continues to this day.

Chuck was a midfielder and, later, an attackman on the men’s lacrosse teams of the early 1950s. During his three years on the team, the Shoremen were nationally-ranked and went 25-14, defeating the likes of  Harvard, Georgetown, Loyola, and North Carolina along the way.

Chuck received his B.A. in History and Political Science from the College in 1953, but his role with the institution was just beginning. He served on the College’s alumni council for 25 years, from 1982 through 2007, serving as President of the council for two years. He was the chair of the Baltimore Alumni Chapter for four years and is currently the co-chair of the Kent and Queen Anne’s Counties Alumni Chapter.

Chuck has been a member of the Sho’men Club, the College’s athletics fundraising organization, for many years, including time as chairman. From 1994 through 2012, he organized the Sho’men Club-sponsored golf outing. For five years, he was “the voice” of Shoremen lacrosse, broadcasting games on WCTR.

His connection to the athletic department also continues in less formal ways. He continues to be a major supporter of the men’s lacrosse team and can be seen cheering the team on from the skybox every game. His backing of his alma mater’s teams extends past the Shoremen laxers, however, as he has also become a tremendous supporter of the women’s basketball team, for example.

For his dedication to his alma mater, Chuck received a Washington College Service Award in 2005.

Washington College considers it an honor and privilege to induct Charles S. Waesche, Jr. into its Athletic Hall of Fame on this 17th day of October, 2015.
