Trevor Hurd arrived at Washington College in the fall of 1990 and filled a void as the “impact player” to enable the Shoremen tennis team to continue its run as a national contender.
Equally skilled at playing with either hand, Trevor made his debut as a Shoreman an impressive one by teaming with future Hall of Famer Scott Read to capture the South Atlantic Regional Doubles Championship. Trevor qualified for the NCAA Division III National Individual Championships in 1992 and 1993 and earned All-American honors with partner Alberto Diaz in 1992. He attained national rankings of eighth and 16th in doubles and 32nd in singles.
Besides being a standout performer on the national stage, Trevor excelled in two conferences, the Middle Atlantic Conference and the newly formed Centennial Conference. He was a member of the 1991 and 1992 Middle Atlantic Conference Championship teams and was a member of the 1993 Centennial Conference Championship team. All three teams were undefeated in conference play.
Individually, Hurd was the 1992 Middle Atlantic Conference singles champion and, in 1991, was a MAC singles finalist. During his three years at Washington College, Hurd’s singles record was 68-18 for a winning percentage of .791.
Team accomplishments during Trevor’s three years included two NCAA Tournament appearances with final national rankings of fourth and ninth and a team overall record of 53-13.
Currently, Trevor is owner and CEO of Coastal Athlete, a fitness center in Bethany Beach, Delaware.
Washington College considers it an honor and privilege to induct Trevor Christian Hurd into its Athletic Hall of Fame on this 1st day of October, 2016.
