Every time Christyl Arrabal picked up a stick at Washington College, she seemed to do something special with it, whether it was a field hockey stick, lacrosse stick, or softball bat. In eight total seasons between those three sports, she was named All-Centennial Conference eight times.
In field hockey, Christyl was a four-time All-Centennial selection, landing on the first team three times and the second team once. She was named to the 1999 Regional All-America first team and was chosen to play in the 1999 North-South Senior All-Star game. She holds the school records for career assists with 29 and is second in school history in career goals with 45 and career points with 119. She was part of the best four-year run in the team’s history. The Shorewomen went 57-17 with her on the team, shared the 1997 Centennial Conference Championship, played in the 1996 and 1997 NCAA Division III Tournaments, and participated in the 1999 ECAC Tournament.
As a freshman, Christyl spent her spring on the softball team, earning All-Centennial Conference honorable mention. She hit .316 with 31 runs scored as the team finished with a record of 21-9-1 to post the best winning percentage in program history.
After a season of softball, Christyl switched her spring sport to lacrosse, where she garnered one All-Centennial Conference second team nod and two All-Centennial honorable mention selections. She totaled 56 goals, 22 assists, and 71 draw controls in her collegiate lacrosse career. Over her three lacrosse seasons, the Shorewomen went 30-21, including a 14-3 mark in 2000. That 2000 team was ranked as high as 12th in the nation in Division III, earned a spot in the ECAC Tournament, and set the school record for most wins in a season.
As a senior, Christyl was presented with the Eldridge Eliason Award and the Doris T. Bell Award, the latter of which is presented to the senior female athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average.
Washington College considers it an honor and privilege to induct Christyl L. Arrabal into its Athletic Hall of Fame on this 13th day of October, 2012.
