Peter Morgan transferred to Washington College for his sophomore year and, in three years, left an indelible mark on the College’s baseball program.

Pete was the Shoremen’s starting catcher for three years and earned All-Middle Atlantic Conference honors all three years. He was named the team’s Most Valuable Player in both 1983 and 1984 and served as a team captain both of those years. As a junior in 1983, he was named a South Region All-American.

Pete was a career .315 hitter with a career on-base percentage of .473. He scored 47 career runs and drove in another 46. He also drew 61 walks over the course of his three seasons in Chestertown. Even more impressive than his work at the plate, however, was his work behind it. He committed just four errors in 314 total chances for a career fielding percentage of .987.

The Shoremen went a combined 46-26-2 during Pete’s three seasons, which was their best three-year run in 24 years. During Pete’s senior season, the Shoremen went 19-11-2, establishing what was then a school record for wins in a season. Washington won the Southeast Region of the Middle Atlantic Conference that year, defeating Johns Hopkins, 6-3.

The end of Pete’s collegiate career was by no means the end of his competitive baseball career. He played in adult men’s leagues until 2006 and then played another five years in an over 40 league. Playing with classmate Matt Burke, Pete reached seven straight state finals and won three state championships with the Maywood Colts in New Jersey. He also spent time as a youth coach.

Washington College considers it an honor and privilege to induct Pete Morgan into its Athletic Hall of Fame on this 18th day of October, 2014.
