Terry Corcoran spent 12 years as the head coach of the Washington College men’s lacrosse team, leading the Shoremen to 11 seasons of 10 or more wins, 10 NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, and four NCAA Division III Championship games, including three consecutive.
In his dozen seasons (1983-1994) at the helm of the Shoremen, the team went 125-55 and posted a winning record in the NCAA Division III Tournament (11-10). Coach Corcoran’s .694 winning percentage at Washington College is the best of any men’s lacrosse coach in school history and is the second-best for any coach with at least 100 victories in Washington College Athletics history.
In just his second season at Washington, Coach Corcoran guided the Shoremen to an 11-5 record and an appearance in the 1984 NCAA Division III Championship game. The team returned to the championship game each of the next two seasons, finishing 13-3 in 1985 and 12-4 in 1986. He was named the 1985 USILA Division III Coach of the Year.
The Shoremen would again advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament in 1990 as Corcoran guided them to an 11-4 record. In addition to his four championship game appearances, Corcoran led the Shoremen to the NCAA Division III semifinals in 1983, 1989, and 1993.
During Coach Corcoran’s tenure at Washington College, Shoremen lacrosse players earned All-America status 51 times, including 20 first-team honors. He coached 12 players who have since been inducted into the Washington College Hall of Fame. In addition, his 1985 team was honored by the Washington College Hall of Fame in 2000.
After his departure from Washington College, Corcoran was the head coach at the University of Pennsylvania in 1995 and 1996 and the head coach at Skidmore College from 1997 until 2005. Since leaving Skidmore he has served as the head coach at Elizabethtown College.
A three-time All-American at Hobart and a native of Corning, N.Y., he was inducted into his alma mater’s Hall of Fame in 1992 and into the Corning Hall of Fame in 1984.
Washington College considers it an honor and privilege to induct Terry Corcoran into its Athletic Hall of Fame on this 30th day of October, 2010.
