Jeremy Stoehr set the standard for the modern position of long-stick defensive midfielder for Washington College men’s lacrosse as a two-time All-American and three-time All-Centennial Conference selection.
As a freshman in 1996, Jeremy scooped up 41 ground balls – an impressive total for a freshman but, stunningly, by far the lowest single-season total of his career. The following season, he racked up a career-best 85 en route to All-Centennial Conference second-team honors. His junior year, he recorded 77 ground balls, was again named to the All-Centennial second team, and was named an All-America honorable mention. Finally, as a senior in 1999, he was chosen as both an All-Centennial Conference and All-America first-team selection after finishing with 71 ground balls. A captain that year, he was also named a North-South Senior All-Star.
Jeremy finished his career with 274 ground balls, an eye-popping number for a player who did not serve as a face-off specialist. He was also a threat in transition, totaling nine assists and one goal over his four years.
As a team, the Shoremen went 53-16 during Jeremy’s fourth seasons. They won the Centennial Conference Championship and reached the NCAA Division III Championship game each of his first two years and won the 1998 NCAA Division III Championship when he was a junior. His senior year, he played in the NCAA Division III Tournament for the fourth straight year.
Washington College considers it an honor and privilege to induct Jeremy M. Stoehr into its Athletic Hall of Fame on this 1st day of October, 2016.
