There was little drama, but much admiration, when the female winner of the College’s Senior Athletic Award – given to the most accomplished senior male and female student-athletes – was announced at the annual Washington College athletics awards ceremony on May 5, 2011. That’s what happens when a seven-time All-American and 18-time Centennial Conference Champion is part of the senior class.
Rachel Glasser completed her illustrious collegiate swimming career at the 2011 NCAA Division III Championships, held in Knoxville, Tennessee. Her 12th-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly and 15th-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle were the sixth and seventh All-America or All-America honorable mention performances of her career. She also qualified for Scholar All-America honors for the second consecutive season.
Glasser dominated the Centennial Conference like few swimmers before her. She was named the Most Outstanding Swimmer at each of her last three conference championship meets, finishing with a total of 18 gold medals, six silver medals, and three bronze medals over four years. She won all nine individual events she entered over her final three conference championship meets.
A four-time team MVP, Glasser left an indelible mark on the conference and school record books as well. She holds the school and Centennial Conference records in the 500 freestyle, 1000 freestyle, 1650 freestyle, and 100 butterfly and the school records in the 200 butterfly and 200 freestyle. She is a member of all five school-record relay teams, two of which also hold conference records. On top of the all that, she is among the Shorewomen’s seven-fastest swimmers ever in three other individual events – the 400 individual medley, 100 freestyle, and 200 individual medley.
Glasser brought national press to Washington College as she was featured in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd” in March of 2011.
Washington College considers it an honor and privilege to induct Rachel Glasser into its Athletic Hall of Fame on this 28th day of October, 2022.
