Ross Coleman was an integral part of the Washington College Tennis Program in the 80’s. He was a member of the team from 1984 through 1987 and was instrumental in the development of the program as a whole.

In 1986, Coleman and his doubles partner won the Middle Atlantic Doubles Championships. This win aided the team in winning back-to-back Middle Atlantic Conference Championships in 1986 and 1987. In the same year, 1987, Coleman and his team reached the Final Four and ended the season ranked 3rd in the nation. Coleman graduated that same year with a degree in Business.

Ross Coleman’s contributions to the Men’s Tennis Program went beyond the court, and, beyond his graduation date. He served the program as a friend, fan, mentor and recruiter and was a crucial part in obtaining numerous future All-Americans and Hall of Famers to come play in Chestertown.

Coleman continued his passion for tennis through coaching. He became a teaching pro and has been the Director of Tennis at the Suburban Club in Baltimore for the last 16 years. He founded the Hawkeye Tennis Academy in 1991 which has seen more than 70 of its players go on to have great college careers. Ross Coleman has coached at 10 grand slams and is currently coaching pro Sophie Chang.

Outside of tennis, Ross also has a passion for photography and wildlife and has even played in a local band as a drummer for 30 years.

Washington College considers it an honor and a privilege to induct Ross Coleman into the Athletic Hall of Fame this twenty-seventh day of September 2024.
